Cable & Internet Provider Scheduling
The Fake Technician Scam
If you dial the wrong number while trying to schedule a cable repair, scammers will offer to send a "technician" to your home if you pay a dispatch fee upfront. Real ISPs bill these charges to your monthly statement, not over the phone.

Common Router Scams
When you call a typo-squatted ISP number to report an internet outage, the scammer will often pivot to a tech support scam. They will claim your router has been "hacked by Russians" or is infected with malware.
They will then demand you install screen-sharing software on your computer so they can "fix the firewall." Once inside, they will lock your computer or access your banking credentials.
- Rule #1: Never let a customer service rep remotely control your PC just to fix a local internet outage.
- Rule #2: If they say your IP address is "compromised," hang up. ISPs don't talk like this.
- Rule #3: Use the official mobile app for your ISP to check for outages before you dial any phone numbers.
